Chapter One : Wake Up And Start

"You'll be great, I promise."

"I don't know, I'm a little scared. I've never been out on my own before…"

"Aww, don't worry Logi, I'll be with you, and I will protect you. That's a promise!"

"You sure do promise a lot"

"Well, I like keeping to what I say."

"How will you be with me though, this is just a dream-"

"Wake me up!"

"Huh?"

The boy sat up quickly from his bed, a cold sweat running down the side of his face. His hands gripped the blue sheets around him tightly, his eyes closing half way in a slight daze towards his alarm clock. It was a two speaker stereo system blaring one of his favorite songs; he thought the lyrics always fit well to wake him up the easiest. He pressed the power button to turn the music off.

"That dream again, the one of my friend…" he whispered to himself, letting his hand slide back to the side of his bed, "Who is she though… she keeps appearing in my dreams."

Sunlight started to pour in the room through the boy's window, shining over his computer, stereo, dresser, and finally covering him with its pleasant warmth. He shook his head to dismiss the dream, finally throwing his sheets to the side to get out of bed. Standing up, he looked in the body mirror on his door, turning around to see his figure.

"Finally, you're thirteen. Are you ready to be a trainer?" he asked himself in the mirror with a cheery grin, holding on to a fake red and white ball form he picked up off his dresser. He tilted his head looking down the mirror. "Right, ummm… maybe I should take a shower and put some clothes on first" he blushed looking at his blue boxers.

* * *

"Alllright Logan, you are ready!" the boy shouted with enthusiasm in the mirror as he made finishing touches to his outfit. He tightened his dark gold shoes, coming up to adjust his white jeans. Tucking in his dark gold shirt, he tightened his belt and put on his white denim jacket vest, one short sleeve at a time. Reaching into the jacket's pockets, he pulled out a pair of dark gold, fingerless gloves, slipping them on with comfortable fit. Looking to the side, he picked up his favorite black cap and placed it on his head, pulling the visor behind him to flow with his dark blonde hair. He smiled at his final product, tracing his finger over the white cross on the back of his hat, perfectly symmetrical on his forehead.

Turning around to his dresser, he grabbed his black back pack, fully packed with nearly everything a growing boy needs on a journey, including plenty to drink and clean boxers. Strapping it on, his hand reached for the door, only to have it bump into his knuckles as the door opened inward. He stepped backwards towards his bed.

"Logan, are you awake?" the deep voice of his dad spoke on the other side as he continued to open the door.

"Yep, I'm all ready too!" Logan chimed at the sight of his dad entering the room.

His dad narrowed his green eyes looking over his son, then he smiled. "Don't you seem enthused. Oh, but before anyone else wakes up, happy birthday!" he said putting his fist out. Logan balled his hand and knocked his fist with his dad, their normal sign of trust as well as a handshake. "You up for cheesy eggs before you go?"

"I don't know if that is such a good idea, I might be late to get my very own-" his dad bumped his hand into the boy's gut, a loud growl exposing his true hunger. "I mean, yah, let's eat!"

Logan let out a sigh of relief, licking his plate clean of the still warm melted queso. He smiled after wiping his mouth with a napkin, his food completely devoured, satisfying his hunger. "Thanks dude, that was good" he commented his dad, jumping from his chair to put the dishes away.

"No problem. I wasn't just going to let you leave off on your own without a good meal, seeing how no one was going to wake up since they all stayed up too late." His dad stood up, walking next to his son. "Do you have everything you need?"

"Pretty sure I do, I have been preparing my stuff for weeks now after all. I just can't wait!" Logan held his hands out to his side with an excited reaction, he felt like the kid he was.

"Just make sure you visit your old man some time on your journey, I can teach you some of my moves." He looked at his son with a smirk on his face, his hand raising to his chin. "And maybe if you get good enough, I will let you face me in a battle, see if you can take on the one that brought you here."

A look of determination filled Logan's being. "You bet!" he said, grabbing his dad into a big hug. "See yah then!" he said racing off to the door. His father watched as the door shut behind his soon to be master trainer of a son, a look of pride and accomplishment shining in his eyes.

* * *

Dust kicked under his feet as he came to a sudden halt at the front gate. His right hand grabbed the white iron bar, pulling it open to cross into the property. Pure, crisp grass worked under him as he walked towards a great bronze-blue building reaching for the clouds. From a distance, it looked like a perfectly cozy house, as he came closer, the great windows and structural material proved this bigger than any warehouse he had ever seen.

"Elements Heaven Laboratories" he read the bold text of the sign above the door. "You really have to be flashy about your work, don't you James…" he spoke in a sarcastic tone, striking his fist on the silver door to the building. His hand paused from his knocking, his ears twitching to the sounds of laughter and joy echoing from inside the building. "Oh no, I'm not late am I?" he said, pulling at the collar of his shirt.

The door opened to reveal three people looking to fit his age group, each of them holding a shiny ball towards the sun's light. Two of them were girls, each with shimmering blue eyes and flowing hair of gold or brown. The other was a boy, his skin a tannish color, near rectangular lenses focusing his brown eyes towards Logan as he exited the building with the others.

"Looks like you are late again, Logi-boy" he teased, waving the white and red item in his fingerless black-gloved hand. Logan looked at him, focusing on his new wardrobe. He was wearing black jeans with a white shirt, matching well with his black jacket, fluffs of white fur surrounding the collar.

"Hey Trey…" Logan said with crossed arms, not too enthused seeing his long time friend and rival beat him again. "What's up?"

"I just told you what's up, weren't you listening? You are late, and there aren't anymore." Trey looked to the side, running his fingers through his hair, his hand coming behind his shoulder with his thumb pointing inside the building. "Professor Drakenson gave the last starter to me. Looks like you are out of luck."

"What? You are kidding!?" Logan exclaimed with a worried look building on his face. "No no, you are wrong, I'm going to go see!" he said rushing towards the door.

"Peh, suits yourself" he spat, watching his friend run inside. Trey looked at the corner of his eye, the two girls that he was in with walking towards the arriving paparazzi now surrounding the gate. He held the red and white ball out in his palm, tossing it in the air and catching as he started to walk to the frenzy of flashing and rolling cameras.

* * *

"Professor Drakenson, where are you?" Logan called running into the first part of the building. The first place he entered was a long hall, glass walls to the sides screening lush plants and animal life on the other side. He looked up as he continued down the hall, branches stretched over the ceiling as well as the walls.

"What is it?"

Logan stopped his running at a corner, the rubber on his shoes screeching on the white tiled floor. "There you are!"

"Oh, Logan. Pleasant to see you I suppose."

Logan bent over with his hands on his knees catching a short breath as he saw the professor emerge behind a crystal door, closing it to the green house part of his laboratory. His pants were black, leading up to his black shirt, a bladed cross on the front with a ruby sphere in the center of the image. A white lab-cape hung down his back side from his collar. He was tall for sure, and his long, black, and wavish hair just made him look taller. Dark blue eyes narrowed on Logan, literally, a smirk on his face.

"Looks like you are too late to get one" he said with an arrogant tone. The professor crossed his arms, turning around to walk down the east hall.

"Hold on, where are you going?" Logan asked following him, the man's cape flowing behind him flicking at the young boy.

"I have work to do, Logan. I can't spend all my day talking when I am on the brink of perfecting my newest invention. All I have to do is test it."

"Invention? Wait, but what about me? I came to get a starter!"

"I told you you were late, and I'm sure the other three told you when they took the last three. You are just going to have to wait till the people at the nursery send some new starters, all I have are mine and the trainers that started here as well." The professor closed his eyes, looking down as he continued to walk. "So, three weeks, two tops if they are healthy when I get them."

Logan shook his head, speeding up in front of the professor to stop him, his arms held out wide. "Come on James, you said you would let me get a starter Today! I don't want to fall behind the other trainers either!" Logan put his hands behind his back, rocking a little. "And it is my birthday today… please?"

The professor stopped, pulling his cape to his side. "And you said you would be here on time. I said you are too late, I don't have any left. You are just going to have to wait."

"But…"

"No buts about it, there aren't any, so you won't get one birthday or not."

"Darn… I just wanted to start my journey sooner, I don't mind what I start with anymore…" Logan bowed his head, his shoulders relaxing in a sigh. He started to walk back whence he came, his feet dragging on the floor.

James followed the saddened boy with his eyes, watching him sulk pathetically away. "Oh for the love of… Hold on" James put his hand on the boy's shoulder, stopping his retreat. "Listen, I might have Something I can give you."

"Wait, really?" he responded, his eyes sparkling with a happy curiosity.

The professor nodded, reaching into his lab cape pocket, to pull out a small keychain. Snapping his fingers over it, a flash of light circled over his hand, a cylindrical substance forming in the air. The light finally diminished to reveal a crystal case held against his chest.

"Whoa, what was that?!" Logan exclaimed, jumping back.

"What you just saw, was my new invention the ES-Device at work, it can store an infinite number of items to be called out at any time, similar to laser ball technology every trainer uses today, but more complicated. However, this one just transported what you see from my bedroom where I kept it." James blew the black with white striped bangs out of his face, as he tilted his head towards the cylindrical crystal case in his arm. "And this is an egg case, the one… hmm, potential starter for you."

Logan held out his arms, taking the case from the professor. "An egg?" he asked curiously, turning the case in his arm to look at the near foot ball sized egg. The egg had a tinted pink color, almost white, but not quite surrounding most of the shell. A blondish colored stripe circled its equator, his finger tracing some of the different patterns through the glass. That looks kind of like a feather… and that one-

"A few things you need to know Logan" James continued, interrupting Logan's train of thought. "I don't know exactly what's in that egg."

"You don't?" The boy tilted his head, his arms folding over the case to keep it safe. "How come?"

James shrugged, moving to the closest wall to lean against it, seeing this might be a while. "First off, I didn't get that egg from any nursery or other professor or whatever. Howller and I found it ourselves at the Tainted-Crystal Mountains. If I'm not mistaken, that is where your parents are from, and where you were conceived."

Logan tilted his head, an eyebrow raising on the left side of his face. "What does that have to do with anything?"

"Well, as you know, or should know anyhow, the difference species found up there are… well, different. It's hard enough to get up to the mountains, yet alone survive once you are up there, and the more difficult part being to actually Find them since they are never in the same place."

"The mountains move? Is that even possible?"

"After everything you have seen in life, moving mountains seems impossible?"

"Good point…"

James cleared his throat, tilting his head to relax it. "Going on. I'm a professor as well as an inventor, so understand this. I found those mountains a long time ago despite some people doubting their very existence. Lucky for me, I had a tracker and I was able to stake at the base of one of the cliffs, making sure I can find the place wherever it goes."

Logan shook his head, cradling the egg in its case. "James, you always seem to be at the right place at the right time. Kinda not fair…"

The professor looked at Logan, a devious smirk on his face. "No kidding, it's the luck of the dragon." The pupils of his eyes narrowed to a sliver when he said that, a chill running down Logan's spine as he saw it.

"Right… Umm, so the egg. If you don't know what's inside it, then why are you giving it to me?" the boy said lifting the case up to look at the egg in the light.

"If you must know, I found that egg a few months ago. It should have hatched by now…"

"Huh? It hasn't hatched!? Does that mean it's a dud?" Logan started to sound disappointed.

"No, it isn't a dud. Whatever is inside it, it's living, I made sure of that. However, and I know this is going to sound kind of bogus but… It doesn't like me."

Logan felt a laugh stir in his throat. "The egg doesn't like you?" he repeated, his eyes suddenly catching a glimpse of a small flash from the egg. Did it just flash?.

"There have been some reports that eggs only hatch in the hands of the trainer it wants to have. I can't get it to hatch no matter what I do, and I'm not going to break it open to find out what's inside." James let out a heavy sigh, looking at the boy stare at his egg. " So, Logan, if you think you can get it to hatch, then it's your-" James paused his words looking at young Logan as he kneeled and set the case on the floor.

Logan's brown eyes were fixed on the egg, his hand lifting up the case by a silver and gold ball at the top. A white nearly visible aura seemed to excrete from the egg, a tingling coolness reaching out towards the case's opener. "I think…" Logan started, reaching his hand towards the surface of the egg. "It's calling… me…" His hand finally made contact with the shell, a sudden warmth overwhelming his hand. The shell started to feel warmer, a glow emitting from the very core lighting up the entire shell. Cracking noises started to echo in the hall, the lights above seeming insignificantly dark compared to the egg's increasing brightness. "It's… it's…" Logan picked up the egg from the case, holding it in the palms of his hands.

"Now who has all the luck?" James commented, walking towards the light to kneel and get a better look. "It looks like it's hatching, and you… Whatever is inside, you get to keep as your first Pokemon."

Original 2007: What? Logan writing a fanfiction, no it can't be so!

Well, yes, it is so. I want to excercise my writing skills before the day I ever write a book, so why not practice by making my own version of a pokemon journey?

So here are the notes of this story, and if you are a reader, I advice you read them. However, I suggest you read the Chapter before you read the notes.

Right, and this chapter was made in October last year, I wrote a few chapters so far, they will be edited and revised before they are sent here. I don't plan on having an ending to this story as of now, so I hope this entertains those that enjoy reading.

Adamant Region Notes:

Adamant Region is my own made up region that I role play all my stories in, but in this case, it is my own pokemon region. It consists of pokemon from every other region in its wild areas, but not all of them. It even has its own system of GYM leaders.

This story focuses on my character and his journeys through the region. I have a goal to build a character from every friend I have ever had, in real life, and some from Deviant Art and IPStudios (so you guys might end up in it too, maybe).

Chapter One Notes:

This chapter revolves on the very beginning of my characters journey in his home city of Rivers Eye. He starts off late from the other trainers, which helps him to a starter one normally would never get, if ever. Think you can guess what it will be?

This is a good fan fiction! I have already read to chapter 5 or so, and I think it is very detailed--it gives a great view of how a 13-year-old Pokemon Trainer with a dearly loved Pokemon would experience his journey.
If you ever do edit this story, then I suggest improving the details (I know someone already criticized on that in the later chapters, so I'm not going to babble on it).
Other than that, I think this Pokemon Fan Fiction has good originality ^_^
