My first year of college, I wasn't sure what to major in when I was finishing high school in Spring 2008, 3D animation sounded interesting, in haste, I chose that, and picked the university I'm in now. I can't say I regret it, the year of constant barrages of assignments from my digital class were interesting, I learned a lot about Photoshop, Illustrator, many programs in efforts to put together a portfolio. One had to pass the portfolio review to actually get into the 3D courses for the second to fourth year of college. Hearing about the labor load for 3D animation, and how that career would go though... My classes are set for it, but..
I'm really indecisive now. I passed the review, many people didn't, however, I almost wanted it that I didn't pass. My classes start in a few weeks, and this whole summer I've been bending my mind on whether I want to be a 3D animator for a living, and I really don't know.... but today, I'm going to meet with an adviser to see if I can switch majors to Communication arts... I am not sure what area to concentrate in though, journalism writing, media and design, speech, or production. I'm thinking production, but I don't know, I really don't know, and I don't want to get far behind in college if I end up changing, or changing again if I do get those courses instead and still feel undecided on what to do.
*sighs* I don't know why I'm typing this, or why I'm sending this in a journal for the world, well, my watchers, to see.
3D, I don't know, I don't think I want to do it.... but, I still want to make cartoons some day, can focusing on production in communication arts get me there? Rhetorical questions, how quaint. Maybe I'll write what happens when I get back home from school, or not, I don't know. Don't. Know.
Edit: 3 1/2 hours laterSweet, I'm majoring in communication arts! I shall be a producer, mwahaa... ok, well, I have three years to become one, but I shall, then I can produce stuff. Talking to the adviser and director of communication arts, I feel as though a weight as been lifted. Forget 3D, sure it sounded fun, but I want to produce! Well, I think I want to, it sounds less limited to be a producer than just an animator, animators animate, producers can organize any media. Hope that goes well, come on Semester 3, give me your best shot!

Though maybe you should finish your 3-d animating classes to see if you get more intersted, then when your done if you want to do something else, just take more courses. I don't think it matters all that much if you are in college a few years more than everyone else. In fact you're probably more likely to get a job if you have the 3-d animating and the communication arts (if they are related to each other)

And yes, 2D is better, I wanted to do that but only have 3D in my city or any place close, don't want to leave home either. Who knows though, maybe you and my other animation driven friends will end up working together in a group project with me. I know for sure if I get to anything high level with some authority, I'm totally going to hire friends.
